I went out to catch a sunset, turned around and spotted a far better shot of the moon, perfectly framed through our Cottonwood tree!
This photo was taken with Shutter Priority and flash, there has been no enhancement to the colouring, as a few have asked. It was looking into the east away from the sunset, which was also magnificent and that maybe why the blue is so intense?

This may be scary stuff, as you say in the sidebar, but it looks like you have it mastered.
for the second shot - my favorite:
shutter priority
iso 800
1/40 sec
f/5
tele at 131 mm
Great framing and exposure.
Terrific shot. I would be proud of this.
Don't forget to tell people what settings you are using on something special and 'out-of-the-ordinary' like this
Thanks for the visit,
Troy and Martha
Amazing shots
Bravo!
Good sky watch photos, would make a nice Halloween post.
Sarah: What an eerie sky you have captured with your Moon shots.
THAT is pretty. I guess it shows that we need to remember to turn around from time to time to make sure we're not missing something good in the other direction.
that looks a bit dramatic..lovely composition
Absolutely beautiful. IT pays to look around sometimes.
Brilliant pictures, just the right modelling of the tree.
Simply WOW! Amazing photos and amazing view! I'd be happy to find out how to catch something like that! =)
Beautiful blue sky, moon and tree.
It's always the unplanned that amazes us, just stunning.
Very attractive images! I always enjoy the moon shots!
Happy Sky Watch!
You have discovered one of the most important things in taking pictures of a sunset - always look in the other direction too. You may find something worthwhile.
I've always heard it said about outdoor shots that if you like the light you're seeing, turn around and look behind you. Chances are good that you'll like that even better.
This shot is a perfect example of how that came to be "conventional wisdom".
The intensity of the blue is just a consequence of what colors were being reflected back in the scene. Which can be affected by a great many things. The meter in the camera is going to try to balance everything in the scene to 18% reflectivity, which is the average for most scenes. And apparently that big bright light in the middle of the frame told it you needed more blue to make the math work out right.
Or something.
I usually don't question the "how" too much when it turns out like this.
You're right it is a very special sight! It reminds me of a St.Nicolas song which is rather popular and sung on 5th December, which is our St.Nicolas'Eve. The song is as follows : See the moon looks through the trees....( too difficult to translate...)Great shots.
Lovely shots of the autumn moon tangled in those trees - beautiful and mysterious!
Thanks also for your visit!
Lovely shots!
Have a nice weekend.
Wow, wow, wow! That is a great shot.
These are delightful photographs, so beautiful and dramatic. Just love the tree, striking with the moonlight behind it, great captures.
Marvelous capture, fantastic blue!
Thanks for visiting my blog also!
Have a nice weekend!

I love that shot. Very mysterious and enchanting.
woofy, sarah! thanks for taking time to read a dog's angst posing as musings.
i love watching the sky because i see a lot of beauty in it. now the big Q is: will my cheap digital camera capture what i see with thine doggy eyes?
drroooly yours,
ps. i hope peeps will stop using word verification because as a dog i have very poor word visuals...drooly barkings.
what a pretty sky indeed.
These are just great pictures taken by one who knows her stuff.
Thanks for sharing.
This is such a beautiful photo and would make an amazing book cover if it was in portrait style. Have you thought about selling your photos to dreamstime.com? that is where I buy my 'working' book covers from, I use them while I write the book as inspiration.
Blue colours are realy excellent. I agree, this must have been better choice than sunset as these are so good.
A great and different idea.
